"He is a bold and valiant captain of a bomber aircraft who already distinguished himself in previous war flights. He participated in many reconnaissances and offensive actions on enemy naval formations. During one of these actions he was targeted by violent anti-aircraft fire and was attacked several times by numerous enemy fighters. Despite the fact that his aircraft was seriously damaged and some crew members were wounded, he tenaciously pressed on with contempt of danger, remained in formation, and contributed to the damage sustained to a large enemy formation and the downing of two enemy fighters."
