Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Unit:
District VI, Gewest 19, Ordedienst (OD), Nederlands Verzet
Awarded on:
October 8th, 1951
Recommendation:
During the period from March 1941 until the liberation of Zuid-Limburg in September 1944, he has distinguished himself in the face of the enemy in his capacity as deputy commander district VI (Maastricht) of region 19 (Limburg) of the O.D. In particular he has assisted escaped prisoners of war and crews of aircraft to cross the border. For assistance to those in hiding, he has established an organisation covering all of Limburg. He has gathered military intelligence pertaining to the enemy in Limburg, has processed it and has passed it on. Despite the fact that his name and pseudonym were known and he was wanted by the enemy, he could continue his resistance work normally. Furthermore, during the fighting around Maastricht in mid September, he passed military information about the enemy in Zuid-Limburg to the Allies, including vital information about the enemy’s artillery deployment in Bunde.
