Awarded for actions during his Regiment's participation in the fighting along the Panther Line in spring 1944. Teuwsen was able to achieve a successful defense of his position against overwhelming Soviet infantry and tank forces, showing great bravery in the process. He was thus decorated with the Knight's Cross and both classes of Iron Cross at the same time.
