The serviceability of the aircraft has been such that not once has it failed to answer requirements, mainly in consequence of LAC Yates's efforts. During the evacuation from Greece, LAC Yates was rigger / air gunner of a Sunderland aircraft which safely transported 138 passengers during the period 17th April to 2nd May 1941. Although called upon to work both night and day, often 24 hours at a stretch, he has never failed any demand. LAC Yates has been involved in five enemy actions and has displayed skill and efficiency.
