"As wireless operator/air gunner this airman has participated in a large number of sorties, including attacks on Berlin, Frankfurt. Mannheim, Hamburg, Bremen and Brest. The technical excellence of his work as wireless operator is equalled only by his genuine enthusiasm for operational flying. On two occasions, when his aircraft has been attacked by enemy fighters, Fit. Sgt. Bell has proved of the greatest assistance to his pilot.
On February 12th, 1942, he participated in an attack on the German warships at sea. In driving rain, he was the first member of the crew to observe the enemy and his clear instructions enabled his pilot to make an attack. He has invariably set a most, valuable example."
