Horton was near a bomb while on guard duty and blown on his belly 150 feet back into a building where he was found unconscious with concussion and sustaining a permanent jaw injury. He also captured three German soldiers and transported them back to his station. He also was a provider of food, guns and ammunition; transported by him to the men in his squad, and to the men on front lines. This service was done with his gun and his slingshot which he made to use when he couldn't use his gun.
