Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Flight Sergeant
Unit:
No. 622 Squadron, Royal Air Force
Awarded on:
March 23rd, 1945
Recommendation:
"Flight Sergeant Hopewell joined the squadron in March 1944, and throughout his first operational tour, which is now completed, he has applied his skill as a Wireless Operator with the utmost determination. This NCO has been a corner-stone in squadron affairs as, during his lengthy tour, he has been called upon as a spare man to operate with any crew and the cheerful manner in which he has undertaken his tasks endeared him with everyone with whom he came into contact. Indeed, in any emergency, Flight Sergeant Hopewell could be relied upon to meet the situation and his inspiring efforts have contributed very largely to the success of the squadron. His operational tour is, in fact, an outstanding example of devoted endeavour worthy of the best traditions of the Royal Air Force and worthy of recognition for which I recommend an award of the Distinguished Flying Medal."
