"Major STANKIEWICZ, Ludwik, G.S.O.I. 1st Polish Armd Div., throughout Operation in the CAEN - FALAISE area especially in the critical days between AUG. 17 - 21st, when the pocket had been closed at CHAMBOIS and enemy attacks aiming at a break - through followed, his coolness, quick judgement, courage and utmost sacrifice was a source of real help to th G.O.C. whose decisions were carried out by him in the quickest and most efficient manner. The activity of Major STANIEWICZ had a direct bearing upon the final success achieved by the Division in the area of CHAMBOIS and hills NORTH of it."
