"On 24 Apr 45 Lieut ANTONOWICZ was commanding an outpost in SIDOEBUREN (MR 422178 ** HOLLAND). At 0300 hrs a strong attack by German paratroopers developed and despite bitter and severe fighting his men, during which Lieut ARNTONOWICZ personally killed two of the enemy, the situation became such that he was forced to withdraw his outpost. Later he led his depleted force in a determined counter-attack in an effort to regain ground he had lost earlier, and after desperate hand-to-handfighting recaptured the village, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy and taking prisoners. By his forceful leadership and personal bravery he was an inspiration to his troops, and it was entirely to his energy and determination that the position was restored."'
