    "Major Casdagli was captured at SPHAKIA, CRETE on 1 June 41. Two months later he was transferred to Germany. Although he was not sufficiently fit to try to escape he helped to dig a tunnel in August 43 at SPANGENBURG (OFLAG IX A/H).

    As assistant security officer at OFLAG IX A/H and a member of the escape committee at OFLAG XIIB (HADAMAR), Major Casdagli helped in the maintenance of escape morale. At the same time he sent valuable information to the War Office by secret means."
