"Major M.H. Arbuthnot, R* of S, has been Brigade Signals Officer throughout the Sicilian campaign (10 Jul 43 - 18 Aug 43). He was single handed for the entire period under review and thanks to his untiring and devoted efforts the communications of this Brigade have always been excellent. He has worked day and night completely oblivious of his own comfort and, on frequent occasions, in utter disregard for his own personal safety, in order to ensure that his communications were always as good as they could be and his energy and devotion to duty have been worthy of the highest praise. Under all circumstances he remains completely unruffled and cheerful and is a magnificent example to all with whom he comes in contact."
