On September 23, 1943, in the battle near the village of Ivanenki of Zaporozhye region of Ukraine, 19-years old Valeria Gnarovskaya sacrificed her life defending the Regiment headquarters and field hospital. In order to shield the wounded, she rushed with a grenades in her hand under one of two approaching German tanks "Tiger". Another tank was destroyed by the soldiers. The German attack has been stopped.
