The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Ordnance Department) Victor K. Vail (ASN: 0-1550285), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against the enemy while serving with the ** Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company in the English Channel off the Coast of France. On 20 July 1944, the LCT on which Lieutenant Vail was crossing hit a mine and sank.
