Biography

Oberleutnant Raimund Steiner replaced Hauptman Karl-Heinrich Wolter as commander of the Merville battery in 1944. Wolter was killed during an Allied bombardment. He was wounded as the result of a direct impact on one of the bunkers. This would be his third time, as he already twice sustained severe wounds on the Eastern Front. He managed to repell all British attacks on his battery and retreated only after 16 August 1944.
