"LT. Scaramanga throughout the Operation showed the highest degree of leadership and devotion to duty. On one occasion he asked permission which was granted, to remain behind to ambush 3 A.F.V.'s which has been engaging his Troop. He set up an ambush and engaged the A.F.V.'s with A/T Rifle to such good effect that their advance was stopped. Later when his position was over-run by the enemy infantry he withdrew only a few yards and secreted himself in a river bed till nightfall. When he made his way through the enemy lines and rejoined our forces after a cross country march lasting for 3 days. This march was over the most barren and difficult country and he and his men had no food or water except what could be scraped from local sources.

Recommend for Military Cross."
