"This N.C.O. has completed a total of 37 sorties against the enemy as Air Gunner, and flown a total of 154.30 operational hours. This gunner’s active and keen performance of his duties, together with his enthusiasm, has been outstanding during his operational tour. In the course of every operation, his persistent and effective search ensured on many occasions that his aircraft passed through the most active fighter defences. His crew owes much of their success to the outstanding manner in which Sergeant Dark has fulfilled his responsibilities. He is considered worthy of the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal"
