"Squadron Leader Bretz has completed many operational sorties including 4 low level raids in Hurricane bombers as a result of which 2 enemy destroyers were severely damaged. During the combined operations at Dieppe on August 19th, 1942, he led his squadron in 4 sorties and destroyed 1 enemy aircraft and damaged another. Squadron Leader Bretz has displayed great courage and initiative which have contributed largely to the successes achieved by his squadron."
