Biography

Panzergrenadier / Kampfgruppe "Seehaus"./ 3. SS Panzer-Division "Totenkoph"

Recipient of the Close Combat Clasp in Bronze and Wound Badge in Black. He was a teenager and one of the last to be sent to the front in January 1945. He fought in in the Budapest counter attack, defensive battles in Nagykanitza, Marczal, and on to Vienna where he was shot in the head. Then Ttaken captive as a POW by the Americans in Linz. The Americans then extradiated the POW's to the Russians where he was one of the 35,000 under armoured guard delivered to the Russians in Pregarten near Linz on May 14, 1945. His ordeal as a Russian captive lasted for 5 years.
