"When the platoon of Grafov crossed the Narva, it fell under strong enemy fire. On February 22, within 17 hours, the enemy made counter-attacks against the positions of the platoon. Because of the massive artillery fire, it did not receive reinforcements and ammunition. When one of the machine-gunners died, Grafov took his place and took an active part in repulsing six enemy attacks. He was wounded, but did not leave the battlefield, continuing to fire. During the seventh counter-attack, Cartov ran out of ammunition and was surrounded by enemy soldiers. He tried to resist in hand-to-hand combat, but was killed."
