"This officer has displayed courageous leadership -and a fine fighting spirit. One day in December, 1941, during an engagement against a superior number of enemy aircraft, Pilot Officer Ranger destroyed a Junkers 88 and a Messerschmitt 109. The following day, his squadron formed part of a bomber escort in an attack on Derna. When the formation was attacked by enemy fighters, Pilot Officer Ranger shot down one of them. Two days later, over Tobruk, his section encountered a formation of enemy fighters and bombers and, in the ensuing combat, Pilot Officer Ranger shot down a Messerschmitt 109F."
