"As Wireless operator (air), Flight Sergeant Thompson has taken part in many sorties, involving the dropping of troops and supplies in the battle areas. On one occasion, when over Arnhem, the aircraft in which he was member sustained severe damage. Flight Sergeant Thompson was wounded. Nevertheless, this resolute airman continued to work at his wireless apparatus, transmitting messages and doing all he could to help his captain to reach friendly territory where a successful crash-landing was made. Flight Sergeant Thompson displayed commendable fortitude and devotion to duty throughout."
