"One night in September, 1943, this officer captained an aircraft detailed to attack Hanover. On the outward flight whilst still over this country, the air speed indicator, the altimeter and other essential equipment became unserviceable. Pilot Officer Walkup continued to the target, however, and executed a successful attack. This officer, who has participated in numerous sorties, displayed great skill and resolution in adverse circumstances."
