Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct against the enemy on May 10, 1940 as commander of a border patrol after having received orders, on completion of a demolition, to retreat in a truck with his men to the west bank of the river Ijssel. During the retreat, he stumbled upon a far stronger enemy unit on the road between Elten and Kilder. Driving on and firing continuously, he inflicted severe losses on the enemy.
