He has distinguished himself in combat against the enemy between May 10 and 14, 1940 near the Haagse Schouw, displaying much courage and tact, for instance on May 10 during the capture of the brick mill on the road from the Haagse Schouw to Rijnsburg and on May 14 during an extremely hazardous reconnaissance mission by boat. During this action, he sustained serious injuries to which he succumbed.
