28 | OC 2 Lincolns reported the loss of one offr and one NCO whilst out patrolling this afternoon. The offr having crawled to within very short distance of the canal bank was shot from close range by a Boche rifleman. The NCO, already hit in the hand, made a valiant attempt to rescue his offr, but was again, shot, this time seriously; the situation being as it was the remainder of the patrol had to abandon the task the of bringing the off and NCO back. Both were considered to be mortally wounded. |
