Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub
Awarded for the achievements of his Division during Operation Bagration. Under Richert’s leadership the Division was able to break out of the Soviet trap near Osemlja on the 26.06.1944, having destroyed 68 hostile tanks. It then pulled back to the line Korma—Poplin (west of the Ptitsch), where it was subordinated to the LV. Armee-Korps. Thus, when most divisions of Heeresgruppe Mitte were either destroyed or shattered, Richert’s formation was able to maintain its integrity and combat worthiness for the battles that followed.
