Awarded the Knight’s Cross for his actions near Tarnow. On the 23.08.1944 Oberst von Bülow led the armoured group of the 24. Panzer-Division in a thrust east of Tarnow that managed to capture the villages of Roza and Borowa. The armoured group then went on to smash advancing Soviet forces over the course of the next two days, distinguishing itself to the point where the Division would be named in the Wehrmachtbericht of the 28.08.1944.
