“Generalleutnant Witthöft has repeatedly demonstrated great bravery and decisiveness, and along with his Division he has achieved battlefield successes of decisive operational importance. Particularly noteworthy were his actions during Operation Volga Reservoir on the 15. and 16.11.1941. During this time Generalleutnant Witthöft especially distinguished himself through both his personal actions in the foremost line as well as the bold and decisive leadership of his Division.”
