Biography

Raymond E. Barth was called upon to serve on December 31st, 1943 and enlisted at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on January 21st, 1944. He served as Medical Technician with Medical Detachment, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. Barth left for Europe on July 26th, 1944 and served there from August 5th, 1944 until July 2nd, 1945. He returned to the United States on July 10th, 1945 and was honorably discharged on January 20th, 1946 at the Separation Center Camp Grant, Illinois.

"For heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in the vicinity of Landensberg, Germany, 26 April 1945. While the platoon which Technician Fifth Grade BARTH served as aid man was engaged in clearing high ground, enemy units on a steep cliff countered with small arms, grenades, and rocket fire. Although entirely exposed to hostile action and observation, Technician Fifth Grade BARTH moved freely about the area evacuating casualties. He administered first aid to the wounded, and moved many from exposed areas to points of relative safety. Although enemy fire continued undiminished, he steadfastly carried out his responsibilities until the wounded were cared for. Technician Fifth Grace BARTH's courage, resourcefulness and determination contributed toward saving several lives and reflect credit upon himself and the military service."
