On 27-1-2024 a Zeitpunkt was placed here for Nikolaus FEDERSPIEL.
Nikolaus FEDERSPIEL, born on 27-10-1888 in Laatsch, South Tyrol, died on
10-3-1945 in the Bruchsal prison in Baden-Württemberg.
Nikolaus Federspiel worked for the Reichsbahn. Together with his wife, he was an active communist and stood up for the party's ideals: social justice and equality for all people. From the beginning, the communists defended themselves against the Nazis, who persecuted them as a result.
Suspicion of "communist activity" led to the first arrest in May 1942.
The Federspiel couple, their children Elisabeth and Ernst and their grandson Richard remained in custody for three weeks.
Because their son and other comrades did not want to go to war for the Nazis, they were arrested again on August 6, 1943 and sentenced to prison for undermining military strength and promoting desertion.
Nikolaus was taken to Bruchstal prison near Karlsruhe on February 25, 1944.
He died a year later, on March 10, 1945, after being beaten by his guards.
Elisabeth Federspiel fell ill and was released early on April 29, 1945.
Their son Ernst was shot dead on April 21, 1945 on the Paschberg in Innsbruck for desertion.
The city of Innsbruck has taken a new path when it comes to commemorations.
On January 27, 2024, International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, the new project "Zeitpunkte" was presented.
A hand-made bronze disc with a diameter of approximately eight centimeters and a thickness of three centimeters is mounted at eye level on light poles or posts in the immediate vicinity of the last freely chosen place of residence of the victims of the Nazi dictatorship. The person's name is on the round plaque, the "Zeitpunkt".
The inscription is engraved and sealed.
