"On 14 April 1945 a section of 14 Platoon the Royal 22e Regiment was detailed to secure a crossroads at map reference 836036. During the advance on this crossroads the section was held up by snipers who were firing from a protected position behind a knocked out German tank.
Private Gaston BLAIN, bren gunner of the section, realizing the necessity of getting forward quickly, rushed the position firing his bren gun from the hip. He personally killed three of the enemy and seriously wounded a fourth.
As a result of his daring action and devotion to duty the section was able to advance and capture their objective and he undoubtedly saved many casualties by his quick decision and personal initiative. "
