Biography

George was born on July 27 1923 in Ottawa, the son William Manard Armstrong (deceased) and Florence Lavine Armstrong nee Jube of Ottawa. He had four brothers and two sisters.

He was a painter and member of the Church of England. His hobby was model building and his sports were hockey and softball.

He enlisted on August 7 1941 in Ottawa and he went on November 5 1942 thereafter overseas to the UK.

George was killed in action on Wednesday May 5 1943 age 19 due to a crash near the road of Boertange –Vlagtwedde before or after an attack on Dortmund in Germany. The other fallen RCAF crew members were F/Sgt John T. MacKsimchuk age 25 in grave A-8-1, F/Sgt Ernest N. Moore age 28 in grave A-8-1 and Sgt Andrew P. Uditsky age 22 in grave A-8-1. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew member was Sgt Thomas A.S. Buchanan age 24 in grave A-8-1.

He served with the 166 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
