Johan Willem Verhoeven was 1e Luitenant Vlieger-waarnemer with the ML-KNIL and in 1941 was the commanding Officer of the 1e Verkenningsafdeling ML-KNIL te Tjikembar, Java. He was taken POW at March 8th, 1942 and was killed in the sinking of the Nitimei Maru (1912) on January 15th, 1943.
