"On 13th February during Operation VERITABLE the Battalion, which was moving towards GOCH, was ordered to clear a narrow wood 1800 yards long and held in strength by a determined and well sited enemy. Throughout this operation Corporal SCOTT's section was the leading section and through a succession of bitter engagements he led it to its final objective. There it came under the most drenching and accurate fire. Corporal SCOTT was wounded but refusing to let this be seen, he re-organized his section. Before they were completely dug in he detected some enemy working their way forward. Though tired and weakened by his wound, he directed fire on to the enemy and broke up this abortive counter-attack which, if it had materialized, might have undone all the hard work of the Battalion throughout that day.

When the position was re-established, Corporal SCOTT completely collapsed with exhaustion from his unattended would.

Throughout the Company attack, Corporal SCOTT's determination and bravery were an inspiration to his men. Later, when wounded, his fine leadership, his self-sacrifice, his complete unconcern for his own safety and his infinite sense of duty were an incalculable factor in the whole day's operation."
