Biography

Fritz Eckert passed away on September 20th, 1944 in Bemmel. At that moment most of the battle in the area was in and around Nijmegen. Probably he was taken wounded to Bemmel and he died there of his wounds. His 'erkennungsmarke' had the unit inscription Pz.Jg.Ers.Abt.6 St.Kp.3997, meaning as much as Stabskompanie, Panzerjäger-Ersatz-Abteilung 6. His remains were at first buried at the Communal Cemetery De Teselaar in Bemmel and were transferred to the German War Cemetery in Ysselsteyn on December 9th, 1957.
