Biography

Elliott Ruggles Corbett was born on November 1st, 1922 as the son to Henry L. Corbett (July 29th, 1881 - April 22nd, 1957) and Gretchen H. Corbett (October 16th, 1886 - February 22nd, 1978). He lived in Riverdale, Oregon. He had attended the Thacher College, Ojai, California (1937) and the Harvard University, Massachusetts (1940). On October 7th, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army Reserve in Cambridge, Massachusetts and left Britain on October 8th, 1943 with the 109th Infantry Regiment from the USA to Great Britain. On July 22nd, 1944 he landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy. Elliott Ruggles Corbett was missing in action on November 19th, 1944. German soldiers found the seriously wounded Elliott and transported him to a field hospital in the Abbey of Mariawald, Hürtgenwald, very near to the place he was wounded. According to German records he died at the abbey on November 22nd, 1944. On his gravestone the date of November 19th was placed which was recorded in US archives.
