Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Unit:
F Section, Special Operations Executive (SOE), British Government
Citation:
"Lieut. DUFOUR contacted a British organiser in the CLERMONT FERRAND area at the end of 1942. He then worked with him for seven months, acting as his liaison agent and assisting in the formation of small groups for the purposes of sabotage and maquis work. He successfully received a number of parachute deliveries and arranged for the transport and disposition of the material dropped.

in June 1943, his organiser was arrested and he contacted the new British officer who took over the area. DUFOUR continued his work in the CORREZE with such success that at the end of 1943, this British officer requested LONDON to commission him in the field. His contacts continued to increase and spread into the department of HAUTE VIENNE and DORDOGNE and arms were received on an ever increasing scale. This second organiser was also arrested but DUFOUR was undeterred and he contacted and continued with his organiser's successor.

After D-Day, DUFOUR's area was transferred into another British officer and he continued his fine work of organisation of guerilla warfare and sabotage of enemy communications until the liberation in September 1944.

For his outstanding work during nearly two years under circumstances of great danger and difficulty and for his continuous loyalty to and co-operation with the British officers under whom he served, it is strongly recommended that Lieut. DUFOUR be appointed a Member of the British Empire (Mil Div).

Colin Gubbins
Major-General

Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)
