Biography

Bond attended Bolton Church Institute 1893-1896. During WW1 he served with the Essex Regiment at Gallipoli in 1915 and in the Middle East.
After WW1 he stayed on as an Army Chaplain at the Garrison Church, Mustapha Barracks, Alexandria, and continued to serve through the twenties.
Throughout WW2 he served in the Middle East.

An entry in the New Zealand Gazette of 1947 could indicate that he emigrated to NZ right after WW2.

30 October 1914: Commissioned as Temporary Chaplains to the Forces, 4th Class
4 September 1919: appointed as Chaplains to the Forces, 4th Class (seniority 30 October 1914)
26 October 1917: temp. Chaplain to the Forces, 3rd Cl. (without increase of pay or allowances), whilst actg. as Senior Chaplains. to the Forces (G. of E.), of Divs.

13 May, 1948 having attained the age limit of liability to recall ceases to belong to the Regular Army Reserve of Officers and is granted the honorary rank of Chaplain to the Forces 2nd Class

Rev. Bond has not only organised the spiritual care of the Corps with the highest efficiency in circumstances demanding rapid adaptability but has himself shown an example which has won him the affectionate regard of all. He is everywhere in battle. I have never known a better Army Padre. He looks after all of us wherever we may be and is one of the most courageous man in the Corps."
