May 12th, 1901 (Hardinxveld, the Netherlands)
Nationality:
Dutch (1815-present, Kingdom)

Biography

Relatively little is known about Cornelis de Boon "Hardinxveldse Cees" and bearer of the Bronze Lion. Sometime in the winter of 1944/1945 he joined the group of line-crossers who used rowing boats and canoes to bring people and messages through the front lines to liberated areas. It is likely that he was also active in the resistance before that. He made, mostly together with his younger brother Arie, an unknown number of crossings.

Cornelis de Boon was awarded the Bronze Lion on August 30, 1948, which was pinned on him by Prince Bernhard on July 14, 1949. In 1951, he and his family emigrated to Canada.
