    "Major James Lawrence Dampier was General Staff Officer Grade II (Operations), Headquarters, 3 Canadian Infantry Division from August 1944 to April 1945 and in this appointment took part in all operations of the division in Holland.
    Major Dampier was engaged in the planning and preparation of orders and the many other instructions pertaining to the operations against the Scheldt pocket in October 1944, the subsequent operations at Nijmegen in February 1945 as well as the operations in Northern Holland at Zutphen, Deventer, Zwolle and Leeuwarden.
    During all this time Major Dampier carried out his duties with exceptional efficiency and contributed greatly to the success of 3 Canadian Infantry Division in liberation of Holland."
