    Unit:
No.10 Platoon, B Company, 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders of Canada, 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Infantry Division, Canadian Army
    Awarded on:
    December 8th, 1945
    Recommendation:
Shortly after the breakout from the IJssel River bridgehead on the morning of 12 April 1945, "B" Company, 48th Highlanders of Canada met serious opposition from a nearby wooded area.
Realizing that the leading platoon could not get forward, Sergeant Hamilton, then Platoon Commander of 10 Platoon, formed his men in an extended line and with himself in the lead, assaulted across 150 yards of open ground towards the enemy position. In the action that resulted, four of the enemy were killed and twelve captured. The immediate result of Sergeant Hamilton's action was that "B" Company continued its advance with renewed vigour.
The Officer Commanding 10 Platoon had been wounded and Sergeant Hamilton's initiative and great personal courage, far beyond the call of duty, in organizing and leading the platoon throughout the entire action was in the highest traditions of the service.
