Biography

Servicenumber 782001.

Gustaw Szeliga was Sergeant on Lancaster Mk Is. LL807 BH.N. The aircraft was one of the three Polish crew planes that were lost out of a total of 17 lost during a night attack on Gelsenkirchen, 12th June 1944. The aircraft was one of eight from No. 300 Squadron that participated. The plane of Szeliga was hit by Anti-Aircraft fire over the Netherlands. The crew, consisting of, F/Lt Jerzy W. Rozanski,

Sgt M. Gustaw Szeliga, F/O Mieczyslaw Hann, F/O Waclaw Bakun, Sgt Albin Pacula, F/Sgt Marian Wroblewski, Sgt Rajmund Bradzo, were all killed. Rosanski, Hahn, Bakun, Wroblewski and Brazdo were buried at oud Leusden, Amersfoort. The remains of Pacula were never found.
Gustaw Szeliga lies buried at the Elburg General Cemetery, Burchtstraat, Elburg.
