06.02.1944: Obersteuermann, 3. WO, U 177, KIA when U-177 was sunk by depth charges from US Liberator B-3 flown by Lt. C.I. Pinnell, US-Navy Squadron VB-107 in the South Atlantic west of Ascension Island, in position 10.35S, 23.15W, remaining crew : 50 KIA and 15 survivors rescued by USS 'OMAHA' (CL-4)
