At the end of September 1942 Unteroffizier Cipa and his Grenadiers stormed a heavily fortified and defended hilltop located amongst the mountainous terrain north of Tuapse. In the process they knocked out 17 bunkers in addition to numerous Soviet field positions, and by achieving this victory they secured the decisive precondition for seizing the remaining hill positions that were of decisive importance for the local situation. Unteroffizier Cipa would later be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this action.
