"For heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as a Pilot of a Bomber Plane in Marine Bomber Squadron FOUR HUNDRED FORTY THREE in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Bismarck Archipelago Area, from 27 February to 27 March 1945. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, First Lieutenant Boyson contributed materially to the infliction of damage on the enemy. His courage and devotion to duty in the face of hostile antiaircraft fire and aerial opposition were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
