The following press excerpt describes why Dormann was awarded the Knight’s Cross…

“Hauptmann Hermann Dormann outstandingly distinguished himself during the heavy fighting between the Don and Volga rivers at the end of November 1942. He did so through the skillful leadership of his Panzergrenadier-Regiment and his bravery, especially during the holding of a bridgehead.”

The events referred to in this excerpt took place in the time period 22.-24.11.1942, with the bridgehead in question being the one at Bolschaja-Nabatowskij.
