"For extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy on 20 December 1944, in Belgium. During an attack on the village of Cheneux, Belgium, Private First Class Del Grippo, in the face of murderous machine gun and 20mm fire, personally reduced an enemy machine gun position, killing one German and capturing the other. That night in another attack, Private First Class Del Grippo observed an enemy self-propelled gun firing on his comrades. Although painfully wounded, he dashed toward the vehicle firing his submachine gun, and killed the four man enemy crew.
