    Biography

    He enlisted into the Army on 18 February 1942 at Fort Rosecrans, San Diego/California, United States. Was wounded during action near the Lock Bridge in Heumen, the Netherlands on 17 September 1944 during Operation Market Garden. Was given aid by Fred Graigner, but he was shot in the head by a German sniper and died. Jerry Murphy died a few minutes later of his wounds. He was first buried at the Temporary American War Cemetery Molenbeek on 20 September 1944. His final interment was at the American War Cemetery Netherlands.
