The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to James F. Bradley (33000821), Sergeant, 310th Infantry, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy from 10 March 1945 to 18 March 1945 near Ohlenberg, Germany.

On reaching the outskirts of the town, Sergeant Bradley a machine gun squad leader, suffered painful shrapnel wounds. Despite his injuries, he exposed himself to heavy enemy fire to set up his gun. He remained with his unit the succeeding several days, leading his squad against powerful opposition. On 18 March1945, still suffering continually from his wounds, Sergeant Bradley manned a .50 caliber machine gun atop a tank and delivered such a volume of fire that the enemy was forced to withdraw. His courage and ability not only permitted his company to advance to its objective but also contributed materially toward the success of his battalion's mission.

Entered military service from Maryland.

Seventh U.S. Army, General Orders No. 587 (October 8, 1945).
