    Biography

    Alfred George Mullins was born in Bristol on March 4th, 1922. He was one of six children. He started his career as a butcher but at the age of 17, he joined the RAF as a flight mechanic and worked his way up through the ranks to Flight Lieutenant. During his active service period he travelled all over the world including postings to Australia. It was in the RAF that Mr Mullins met his wife Audrey May. She was from Plymouth and worked in the officers' mess. He died of cancer on August 15th, 2008.

    "On every sortie, even over the moste dangerous targets, the skilful handling of the engines displayed by Sergeant Mullins has given his pilot complete confidence. He has taken part in raids on Berlin and in the 'round trip' raids on Friedrichshafen and Spezia. On many missions, this airman's work has called for special mention by his Captain. His ability and devotion to duty have been highly praiseworthy."
